2007
The'War
on terror' initiated by George Bush after 9/11 is escalating:
- Bush
is sending 20,000 more troops to Iraq, reportedly to launch an all out
attack on the slums of Sadr City
- an
attack on Iran by the USA or Israel is moving up the agenda again,
- peace,
development and freedom in Afghanistan are as far off as ever
- a
new front has been opened in Somalia with the return of US backed
warlords
- British
troops' control of Basra is collapsing and opposition growing.
Meanwhile,
in Britain:
- up
to 75 billion pounds is to be spent on renewing the US controlled
Trident nuclear missile system while hospitals and schools care closed
- an
ugly wave of Islamphobia is growing, with the encouragement of both
government and press
- Tony
Blair is hoping to escape office without being called to account for
his criminal lies.
And in
Palestine, after their defeat in Lebanon, Israel is stirring up civil
war
on the West Bank and subjecting Gaza to a slow death by economic
and military strangulation.
The real causes of all this go unaddressed. Resource shortages,
especially the imminent peaking of oil production;American economic
weakness which their military adventures are designed to offset; the
massive transfer of wealth to the super-rich, taking place
world-wide under the banner of 'globalisation'; and simple, massive
corruption.
And environmental chaos grows apace, led by the same people who lead us
into war.
So Chester Stop
the War
Coalition for Justice and Peace is
going to continue debating, organising and campaigning on all these
issues.
